Audi has released a new plug-in hybrid version of its A6 saloon, called the 55 TFSI e quattro. The new saloon is fitted with the same PHEV powertrain as the recently launched Q5 55 TFSI e and A7 55 TFSI e – and it will be available to order later this year, with prices starting from around £60,000. First deliveries are due in early 2020
It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, a 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. The system produces a combined output of 362bhp and 500Nm of torque, which provides the A6 55 TFSI e quattro with a 0–62mph time of 5.6 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

Economy and emissions figures for the new Audi A6 55 TFSI e quattro stand at 134.5mpg and 47g/km of CO2 respectively, while its maximum all-electric range is a claimed 32.9 miles. When plugged into a 7.4kW fast-charger, the A6 PHEV’s battery will recover a full charge in around two-and-a-half hours.
Like all of Audi’s most recent plug-in hybrid models, the A6 55 TFSI e quattro features three driving modes. “Hybrid” mode automatically hunts for the most efficient blend between combustion and electric drive; “EV” mode switches the drivetrain to all-electric power and “Hold” mode retains the cars current electric energy for use later in the journey.

Standard equipment for the UK-delivered A6 55 TFSI e is yet to be announced. However, its specification should be similar to the European model, which will receive Audi’s S-line body kit, a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and lowered sports suspension. Audi’s black styling pack is also standard, adding black window trim and a black radiator grille.
Inside, buyers will get a pair of sports seats, a leather-trimmed sports steering wheel, four-zone climate control and a set of stainless steel pedals. Like the standard A6, the 55 TFSI e will also receive a digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment system and a touchscreen mounted in the centre console which controls the car’s climate control system.
