BMW has revealed an ultra-exclusive limited edition version of its flagship X7 SUV. It’s called the Dark Shadow Edition, and production will be limited to just 500 units globally – of which just 10 will find their way onto UK driveways.

Changes over the standard BMW X7 include an aggressive M Sport body kit and a twin-exit M Sport exhaust system. The German firm has also removed all of the standard car’s chrome trim, swapping it for gloss and matte black replacements.

The special edition X7’s kidney grilles, window surrounds, door trims, roof rails and exhaust tips have all been painted black, and the rear windows are heavily tinted. The Dark Shadow package is completed with a new Arctic Grey metallic paint finish and a set of lightweight 22-inch alloy wheels finished in matt black.

Inside, buyers get leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner and a leather dashboard – all of which are trimmed in a blend of BMW’s Night Blue and Black interior colours. There’s also a host of additional equipment, such as sun-protection glazing, a panoramic glass sunroof, a head-up display and massaging seats.

The X7 Dark Shadow Edition has a 20-speaker Bowers and Wilkins stereo system, a pair of 10.2-inch touchscreens mounted to the rear of the front seats and a TV aerial, which allows passengers to enjoy digital TV.

The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition features the same engine and drivetrain as the X7 M50i. So, it’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, which produces 523bhp and 750Nm of torque. The engine sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, for a claimed 0–62mph time of 4.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

It’ll be built at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, USA, from August this year, with prices starting from £114,975.
