Lynk & Co Zero Concept coupe-SUV unveiled

Geely’s premium pure-electric brand, Lynk & Co, has unveiled the Zero Concept ahead of this year’s Beijing Motor Show. The coupe-SUV will evolve into the Chinese firm’s first pure-electric production vehicle next year, providing fresh competition for the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 and Tesla Model Y.

The Lynk & Co Zero Concept is based on Geely’s new Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). The scaleable electric underpinnings will prop up all of the Geely group’s future EVs – and the company even plans to farm out the platform to third party manufacturers to assist with their own electric vehicle development.

Final performance details for the Zero Concept are yet to be confirmed, although the company is targeting a sub-four-second 0–62mph time. Lynk & Co also expects the finished EV will be capable of covering more than 435 miles on a single charge – although that estimate is based on the outmoded (and optimistic) NEDC test regime.

The concept’s design blends Lynk & Co’s existing style language with elements of western electric vehicles. Up front, there’s the firm’s usual dinky LED headlights perched atop a slab-faced radiator – but in profile, the Zero bears a strong resemblance to the Jaguar I-Pace. At the rear, there’s a full-width light bar.

Like most dedicated electric vehicles, the Zero Concept has very short overhangs, which should translate into a relatively spacious cabin. Its wheelbase measures just under three metres, placing its dimensions in the same ballpark as the ID.4 and Model Y.

Lynk & Co recently announced its plans to launch the 01 SUV on the UK market by the end of 2022, via a subscription model. Whether or not the production Zero will follow suit is yet to be confirmed.
