Ford has broadened its Focus lineup by adding a new Vignale Active X edition to the range, making the Focus range the most comprehensive in its class.
The model combines Ford’s top-spec Vignale trim with the rugged exterior look and raised ride height of the Active trim level. Standard features on the new trim include 17-inch alloys, contrasting black roof and mirrors, LED headlamps, Vigale interior trim and a new head-up display.
Three engine options are available: a 125bhp 1.0-litre and 148bhp 1.5-litre, which are both EcoBoost three-cylinder petrols and a 148bhp 2.0-litre EcoBlue four-cylinder diesel. All versions are front-wheel drive despite the model’s off-road appearance, but the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox is offered.
Next year Ford will broaden the Focus’ engine lineup even further with the addition of new hybrid powertrains. The first will be a new 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain, which Ford says is geared towards fuel efficiency but will have ‘powerful’ and ‘responsive’ performance.
Although the architecture the Focus is based on can support plug-in hybrid technology, Ford has made no official plans to launch such a model. Similarly, there are no plans for a fully electric version of the Focus either.
