New Mercedes EQT electric van concept for 10 May reveal

Mercedes has confirmed it will reveal a new concept car on 10 May, when it reveals another new member of its EQ line-up - the Concept EQT.

It will be our first look at a forthcoming small van and lifestyle vehicle under development by Mercedes, which is set to introduce an all-new badge to the brand. Called T-Class, it will be a new Volkswagen Caddy and Peugeot Rifter rival, and will be a replacement for the ageing Citan.

Petrol and diesel versions of this new small van have already been spied testing. The new T-Class makes use of a platform borrowed from The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

The reveal of the Concept EQT confirms that, alongside the combustion variants already spied, Mercedes is also planning a fully-electric member of the T-Class line-up. The brand says that the battery-electric version will be “first out of the blocks”, so it could well be the launch variant of the new van.

A single teaser image hints at the design of the EQT, which Mercedes says will introduce a premium element it thinks is missing from the leisure activity vehicle segment. However, all we can make out is that the Concept EQT will use the familiar face of all recent EQ concepts and production models.

No specifications have been revealed, but the T-Class and by extension, the EQT, are almost certainly based on the same platform as the brand new third-generation Renault Kangoo, which is also available with a fully electric powertrain.

The new Kangoo ZE makes use of a 44kWh battery and claims a maximum range of 159 miles under WLTP testing. Charging at 75kW is possible.

Set to be launched in Europe later in 2021, the all-new Mercedes T-Class - and the production version of the EQT - won’t go on sale in the UK until the first half of 2022.
