England’s top motorway services have been named in a new study that found drivers most happy when visiting the M4 Reading westbound services. At the other end of the scale, Heston services eastbound, also on the M4 recieved the lowest rating.
In a survey of all 112 motorway services in England by transport watchdog Transport Focus, over 8,700 drivers ranked the various stops for the quality of facilities, toilets, staffing and food and drink. Drivers were also asked whether they left the services happier than they were on arrival.
Reading services on the M4 were voted the best by drivers, with Rivington Services on the M61 (Northbound) and Corley Services on the M6 (Northbound) ranked as second and third.
• 'The Government and Department for Transport are more out of touch than ever'
The survey found 90 per cent of visitors were happy with their visit, with 64 per cent finding the food and drink represented good value for money.

Transport minister John Hayes said: “Motorways services can and should be lovely places for drivers to enjoy not just places they have to stop.
“But users’ needs and expectations are constantly evolving. Now I want to go much further to raise and meet those expectations. My new taskforce will bring together industry and independent experts to look at how services can be fit for future motorists and reflect the particularity of localities which host these important facilities. Thoughtful design and a range of goods and services can make all motorway services as good as the best.”
