Alpine has unveiled a motorsport variant of its A110 sports car called the A110 Cup, which will compete across Europe in the one-make Alpine Europa Cup series.

Costing £90,000, the A110 Cup is developed by the French racing team Signatech, who in the last few years ran successful Alpine-badged Le Mans Prototypes to victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours and European Le Mans Series in the LMP2 category.

Power from the 1.8-litre turbocharged Renault-Nissan four-pot has gone up to 266bhp from the road-going A110’s 249bhp, while torque remains at 320Nm. The already lightweight Alpine has had 30kg shaved off its weight in race trim, tipping the scales at 1,050kg.

Ride height has been reduced by 40mm while the usual racing car trinkets such as a roll cage, bucket seat and digital steering wheel have all been fitted.

Safety has been at the core of the A110 Cup’s development. Steel plates are built into the light aluminium chassis to strengthen the body should there be a collision. Brembo supply magnesium racing brakes with six-piston callipers while ABS and traction control also help to improve the driver’s safety.

The Alpine A110 Cup has been tailor-made for the Alpina Europa Cup that takes place between June and October 2018, with six meetings across Europe on the calendar. The grid will be split into three categories: Overall, Junior for drivers under 25, and Gentleman for drivers over 45.

Approximately £142,000 of prize money is on offer for the top drivers in the series, which should make up for the £90,000 cost of the A110 Cup. The first race meeting will be held on 1 June at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France.
