Nissan has previewed a hot version of the new all-electric Leaf during the first European outing of the core version of its second generation Renault Zoe rival, hinting that the firm has an electric hot hatchback in the pipeline.
Called the Leaf Nismo Concept, it’ll make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next month, boasting sporty styling and a more potent all-electric powertrain.

We’ve only managed to snap one picture of the concept, which was briefly teased during the new Leaf’s European debut. However, it’s easy to see how it differs from the core Leaf, with large alloy wheels, a lower ride height, a two-tone black and white paint finish, more aggressive looking front bumpers and side skirts, plus sporty looking red accents on the bodywork.
While Nissan has all but revealed the car’s sportier looks, nothing has been said about the concept, its powertrain and performance – all is being kept under wraps until its Tokyo debut.
Perhaps Nissan’s move to put together a Nismo badged Leaf isn’t all too surprising. Earlier this year, the firm announced plans for a fresh performance model product offensive under the Nismo brand in a bid to boost its hot sub-brand’s global sales beyond 15,000 units per year. Bringing the Nismo name to new segments was touted as one potential way of doing this.
