Hyundai has announced, special edition i10 Play and i20 Play models to join its existing UK range. The Play editions are designed to offer better value by delivering more equipment for a smaller financial outlay.
Priced the same as the lesser SE specification, the i10 Play city car features a host of extra equipment, including, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, touchscreen satellite navigation and 15” alloy wheels. Power comes from a 1.0-litre 67hp petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The introduction of i10 Play aims to make Hyundai’s smallest model a more compelling proposition when compared to the leading lights in the city car class such as the VW Up!. A similarly specced ‘High Up!’ commands a premium of almost £2,000.
Launching at the same time, i20 Play undercuts its cheaper SE trim level on price but gains a hike in equipment, similar to i10 Play. Navigation and smartphone mirroring are standard as are 16” alloy wheels. A choice of two engines are available, both petrol with a choice of either 84 or 100hp outputs, each is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Facelifted last year, i20 has a tough fight on its hands to compete with newer rivals like the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo. The introduction of Play versions makes for an improved value proposition which Hyundai hopes will help lure buyers.
