A refreshed version of the Renault Megane is being readied for release in 2020, with a fresh interior and new plug-in hybrid tech

Renault is currently developing a facelifted version of the Mk4 Megane hatch, introduced in 2016. Due to reach the UK in the first half of 2020, the updated model will get a reworked interior, slightly tweaked panelling and, like the new Captur, plug-in hybrid technology.

According to these spy shots design revisions should be fairly mild, being restricted to the camouflaged areas of this mule. The old car’s funky headlamps and day-time running lights will persist across the update, although the rear lights have been replaced with fresh units. The front and rear bumpers also get a minor tweak, with a fresh grille and new exhaust respectively.

Renault’s drivetrain updates should be slightly more involved. Like the 2020 Renault Captur, the French firm will give the updated Megane an all-new plug-in hybrid powertrain, and it confirmed as such at the Paris Motor Show last October.

Inside, we expect to find a redesigned infotainment system which sits flush with the dashboard, rather than being set into a recess. It should be similar to the system found in the updated version of the Megane’s SUV-shaped cousin, the Renault Kadjar; albeit mounted north–south rather than east–west.

A range of driver assistance features could also feature on the new Megane, thanks to Renault’s recent partnership with Nissan. For example, the Japanese firm’s ProPilot semi-autonomous driver aids may find a home on the updated hatchback, as part of Renault’s goal of bringing 15 semi-autonomous models to market by 2022.
