Audi has officially launched the new RS5 Sportback in the UK, with the RS5 Coupe returning to the brand’s line-up following a short hiatus to make it WLTP compliant.

However, Audi’s hot 5 models return in limited numbers. Just 250 examples of each have been allocated for the UK market in 2019, all of which will be offered in the German brand’s exclusive ‘Audi Sport Edition’ trim. Prices will start from £68,985, with first deliveries expected in late June. Previously, the S5 Sportback was as potent as Audi’s BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe rival got.

Both models are powered by Audi’s turbocharged 2.9-litre V6, producing 444bhp and 600Nm of torque. The engine sends its power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, providing a 0–62mph time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

Chassis upgrades over the standard A5 Sportback and A5 Coupe include an RS-specific multi-link suspension setup, larger brakes and a standard fitment quattro sport differential, configured to distribute power in a rear-biased 40:60 split. Drivers can also tailor both cars’ throttle response, transmission shift points and steering weight to suit their preference.

Both models are treated to a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, a gloss black honeycomb grille, gloss black mirror caps and an Audi Sport exhaust system with the brand’s trademark oval tips. A full Audi ‘RS’ body kit is also included, with new bumpers, deeper side skirts and a lip spoiler for the boot.

Inside, the new RS5 gets a pair of unique leather-and-Alcantara-trimmed sports seats, piano black trim, a panoramic glass sunroof and a reconfigured version of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit infotainment system with RS-specific displays. Buyers also get LED interior lighting, blind spot monitoring and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
