Skoda’s flagship Kodiaq SUV is to get a mid-life refresh with mildly updated styling and fresh technology

Skoda will give its range-topping seven-seat Kodiaq SUV a mid-life facelift, as hinted by this latest batch of spy shots. The new model will reach the UK market in mid-2020, with a minor range of styling updates, some interior technology tweaks and a potential plug-in hybrid powertrain option, lifted from the Superb.

As indicated by this mule’s targeted camouflage, styling updates for the new Kodiaq will be limited to new front and rear bumpers and fresh front and rear lights. The Czech brand’s trademark grille will remain untouched between the models, although fresh black trim for the grille and window surrounds will probably feature.

Inside, we anticipate mid-range versions of the Kodiaq will receive Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument panel for the first time. The unit already appears as a standard fixture on the range-topping vRS model. Following convention, the Kodiaq’s dashboard trim, interior plastics and upholstery will also get a minor refresh.

The most notable update for the 2020 Kodiaq could be the SUV’s adoption of plug-in hybrid technology. Skoda could utilise the turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol-hybrid unit from the recently-revised Superb; enough to provide the Kodiaq with 215bhp, 400Nm of torque and emissions ratings in the sub-100g/km of CO2 category.
