Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato Concept announced

Lamborghini has revealed an off-road concept of the Huracan EVO. Called the Sterrato, it features a raised ride height, flared wheel arches and a range of off-road accessories. Lamborghini claims the Sterrato draws on the brand’s brief dabble with rallying during the 1970s, picking up where the specially-modified, desert-going Jarama and Urraco rally cars left off.

The Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato Concept is powered by the same naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine as the road-going model, producing 640bhp and 600Nm of torque. The Italian firm also claims the car’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel-drive system has been recalibrated for use off-road use, with a rear-favoured bias.

Chassis updates over the standard Huracan include a 47mm increase in ground clearance, a 30mm wider track, new chassis bracing, aluminium-reinforced side-skirts and protective composite bodywork around the engine and air intakes. To finish the package, Lamborghini has also specced a set of 20-inch off-road wheels and tyres.

To cover the wider track and larger wheels, Lamborghini has fitted a set of rugged flared wheel arches. Other off-road focussed updates include a pair of bumper-mounted LED fog-lamps, a roof-mounted LED light-bar, a titanium roll cage, four-point safety harnesses, carbon-fibre sports seats and lightweight aluminium floor panels.

Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, Maurizio Reggiani, commented: “The Huracán Sterrato illustrates Lamborghini’s commitment to being a future shaper: a super sports car with off-road capabilities, the Sterrato demonstrates the Huracán’s versatility and opens the door to yet another benchmark of driving emotion and performance.”

Naturally, the Huracan Sterrato Concept won’t be mass produced, but Lamborghini has confirmed that it’s built a functioning prototype, which will make its debut in the near future. Reggiani continued with: “Lamborghini’s R&D and design teams are constantly exploring new opportunities and delivering the unexpected as a core characteristic of our DNA, challenging possibilities while inspired by Lamborghini brand heritage.”
