This is the limited edition Lamborghini Sian. It’s a rebodied, re-tuned and electrified version of the Lamborghini Aventador, and it’s the most powerful car the Italian brand has ever built. Production is limited to just 63 units, to honour the company’s founding year – and all have been sold.

The Sian, which translates as “flash of lightning” in Bolognese dialect, indicating the car’s electrified drivetrain, is powered by a tweaked naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine and electric motor, which combine to produce 808bhp. Engine upgrades include a set of titanium intake valves, a reconfigured ECU and new exhaust system.

The hybrid element to the Sian’s powertrain comprises a 48-volt electric motor that develops 34bhp, sandwiched between the engine and the transmission. It’s powered by a supercapacitor, which Lamborghini claims is three times more powerful than a conventional lithium-ion battery of the same weight.

Not only is it the most powerful Lamborghini ever made but also the quickest; the Italian firm claims a 0-62mph time of less than 2.8 seconds. The Sian’s top speed is yet to be officially announced, but Lamborghini says it will be “over 217mph.”

Lamborghini claims the Sian’s styling is inspired by the Countach, borrowing design features such as its Y-shaped air inlets, glass engine cover and diagonal bonnet lines. Its Y-shaped headlights pay homage to the all-electric Terzo Millenio concept, while its six hexagonal tail lights have been added.

A range of active and passive aerodynamics enhancements also feature. The Sian’s rear wing only deploys at speed, while its fixed front splitter and side skirt vanes generate additional downforce. Active cooling vanes, made from a heat reactive “smart material,” are also fitted to the car’s engine cover, opening in reaction to the heat generated by the exhaust system.

Stefano Domenicali, Lamborghini’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, hinted at Lamborghini’s future plans for electrification stating that the Sian “represents the first step in Lamborghini’s route to electrification, and expedites our next-generation V12 and V10 engines.”

Each example will be available customised by its owner in collaboration with with Lamborghini Ad Personam, the brand’s in-house personalisation department. A uniquely configured model, finished in “electric gold” is due to make its public debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
