A new hot Mercedes-Benz SUV - the next-generation GLE 63 AMG - has been caught testing by our spy photographers.
Mercedes is poised to replace the current GLE – still based on 2011 M-Class underpinnings – in 2018 with an all-new model. It’ll sit on a new chassis, get new engines and tech and will boast a redesign in-line with Mercedes’ latest design language.
It’ll form a vital piece of what’s set to become a grand overhaul of Merc’s SUV line-up over the next couple of years, which will see replacements for the GLA, and the G-Class too, while an all-new model in the form of the GLB is set to appear in 2019.
While we’re still waiting for an official glimpse of the next-generation GLE, these latest spy shots show that Mercedes is already hard at work preparing an AMG fettled version of its BMW X5 and Audi Q7 rival. It’ll sit above the recently released AMG GLC 63 and AMG GLC 63 Coupe models.
Like nearly all new-generation AMG models, the firm’s trusty 4.0-litre biturbo ‘hot vee’ V8 engine will sit under the bonnet. Power should be around the 500bhp mark, while a more potent ‘S’ model could turn the wick up to 600bhp.
More aggressive bodywork will set it apart from the standard GLE range. Our spy images reveal bulging wheel arches housing huge alloy wheels, while the interior will be given an AMG makeover as well.
