Vauxhall will add a hot estate to its line-up with a GSi version of the Insignia Sport Tourer at Frankfurt in September

Vauxhall has only just revealed the new Insignia Grand Sport GSi ahead of its full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but fresh spy photos suggest that an estate version of the hot Insignia flagship will shortly be heading our way as well.

It’s wearing Opel badges, but the complete lack of disguise on this Insignia Sports Tourer GSi confirms that a hot estate is being lined up for the Vauxhall range. We anticipate that it will appear alongside its saloon-bodied sibling at Frankfurt in September.

Styling tweaks are kept strictly in line with the looks of the Grand Sport GSi. That means large 20-inch alloy wheels plus a new bodykit. It gets an aggressive front apron, boasting large vents with brushed metal inserts, new side skirts, and a new rear bumper with two large exhaust exits. The estate rear end means it gets a different tailgate and bootlid spoiler.

Under the bonnet will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, producing 257bhp and 400Nm of torque. Vauxhall has not yet issued any performance figures for the Grand Sport GSi, but 0-62mph should be dealt with in less than seven seconds. Power is sent to an all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The unique suspension tweaks heading the way of the GSi saloon will be carried over, meaning 10mm shorter springs and new shock absorbers will join a set of Brembo brakes.

Inside, the cabin will be given a racy makeover with sporty seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. It’ll arrive in UK showrooms alongside the Grand Sport GSi early in 2018.

Will the Insignia GSi inject a little extra excitement into Vauxhall's range? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
