The world’s major car manufacturers are set to descend on Tokyo in October as the 45th edition of the Tokyo Motor Show showcases the best the Japanese car market has to offer.
Running between the 27th October and the 5th November, the show will bring together car marques from Japan, Europe and elswhere to showcase their latest cars and concepts to the Japanese public and the world's motoring press. With the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche leading Europe's representation, it’s the Japanese exhibits that look set to garner the majority of attention.
Suzuki has caught the eye of the automotive world with a range of new compact concept cars in wake of the brand’s 100th anniversary in 2020. While Subaru has also made waves with a sports saloon concept and limited edition models of the WRX STi and BRZ. Mazda has been peddling the RX-Vision concept for two years and looks set to launch a new version of the RX-8 sequel at the show.

Mazda
At the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this month, Mazda Europe’s Vice President for R&D Matsuhiro Tanaka confirmed an evolution of the RX-Vision concept for this year's Tokyo Motor Show. Mazda unleashed the RX-Vision for the first time at the 2015 edition of the Tokyo Motor Show as a long-awaited successor to the RX-7 and RX-8, with the latter ending production back in 2012.
Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi has released a teaser preview of an all-electric SUV concept called the e-Evolution, with the car set to be fully unveiled in Tokyo next month. Now part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Mitsubishi has already forged a path in the electric SUV market with the Outlander PHEV. The Japanese manufacturer looks set to add another addition to the electric SUV fleet and revive the legendary Evolution badge that was famously sported by Mitsubishi’s rally cars and subsequent road cars.
Subaru
Subaru has teased one of its Tokyo exhibits with darkened pictures the new VIZIV Performance concept. The VIZIV Performance has a sporty saloon shape reminiscent of the famed Impreza WRX STi and some features similar to Subaru’s virtual Vision GT featured in the Gran Turismo video game series. Subaru will also be unveiling a special edition S208 model of the WRX STi. An evolution of the S207 model, only 450 units will be built and will go on sale in Japan via a lottery. A special edition BRZ will also be revealed, of which 150 units will be sold to the Japanese market.
Suzuki
Suzuki announced a full range of concept cars expected at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. The e-Survivor is Suzuki’s main attraction at this year’s exhibition. The compact SUV boasts an all-electric drivetrain with permanent four-wheel-drive and a retractable roof similar to the X-90 mini-SUV of the 1990’s. The XBEE (cross-bee) compact crossover wagon is another notable Suzuki feature, with three editions catering to either a younger market or to a more experienced clientele, depending on the model.
