Kia’s new Ceed hatchback will spawn a family of new models that will include a new compact SUV aimed at taking on the Volkswagen T-Roc. It’s expected to sit beneath the Kia Sportage in the lineup but won’t arrive until the middle of next year.
The midsize and compact SUV segment is the fastest growing new car market in Europe and Kia is aiming to boost its sales with more product offerings.

Speaking about the idea of a Ceed SUV, Artur Martins, Kia’s vice president of marketing, told Auto Express: “This is something we are putting on the table. There will be no three-door with this car so that gives us the chance to have another body type of the [Ceed] car”.
Martins also identified the C-segment, the market where the Ceed competes, as an area for potential growth for Kia. “We over perform in D-segment and SUVs – we have around 7 per cent market share,” he told us. “We have a chance to increase volume but we have to change the recipe, we have to come with a different proposition, something more relevant”.
The Ceed SUV is expected to be the final member of the Ceed family but is unlikely to be launched before the middle of next year. Before it a more practical sports wagon will arrive, which will be followed by a design-orientated shooting brake estate based on the Proceed concept from last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
A performance-based GT version of the hatchback will also be launched, but won’t be as focused as sister brand’s Hyundai i30 N according to Martins.
