Volkswagen has teased the new ID. Roomzz concept, which sits on the brand's MEB platform and will make its debut at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show later this month.
The ID. Roomzz is a new member of the production ID. line-up and it’ll be a full-size SUV to sit above the ID. Crozz in VW’s upcoming electric family. It’ll launch on the Chinese market first in 2021.
Looking at the teaser sketches a clear resemblence to the ID. Crozz can be seen in the front lighting signature and face of the ID. Roomzz, and it’ll also feature a set of rear-opening suicide doors. That’s about all we can see for now, but this will be a bigger and likely more conventionally shaped SUV than the Crozz. It will be one of the largest cars on MEB alongside the ID. Vizzion saloon revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018.
More recently, Audi revealed an SUV using the MEB platform at last month’s Geneva show. The Q4 e-tron concept boasts a maximum range of 280 miles on a single charge - a figure we expect the ID. Roomzz to match.
Volkswagen says that inside the ID. Roomzz will be an interior with configurable seating, while like the ID. Vizzion autonomous driving features play a huge role in the operating concept of the show vehicle.
VW says that the concept car previews an electric SUV capable of level 4 autonomy, which means the driver can delegate full responsibility to the car’s autonomous drive systems when it is safe to do so.
We’ll get to see the ID. Roomzz in full on 15 April, during the first press day at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show.
