New Mazda 2 2020

Mazda has announced a revised version of its Mazda 2 supermini. The updated model is already on sale in Japan, where it features a range of mechanical revisions, a handful of styling tweaks and a sprinkling of fresh technology. Most of these updates will be transferred to the UK variant when it goes on sale later this year.

Styling revisions include fresh 16-inch alloy wheels, reworked headlights, tweaked front and rear bumpers, thinner fog lamps and a new grille. Interior updates will stretch to a pair of redesigned front seats and enhanced sound deadening, which Mazda claims will improve interior comfort.

Mazda has also reworked its supermini’s platform, with fresh dampers and a revised version of its G-Vectoring Control chassis management software. The Japanese firm claims these updates will make the Mazda 2’s handling more stable at high speeds, while maintaining a comfortable ride.

Like the old model, the updated Mazda 2 will be available in the UK with a choice of three petrol engines. The Japanese firm’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder SkyActiv-G unit will be offered with either 74bhp, 89bhp or 113bhp, and all three engines can be had with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Technology-wise, the new Mazda 2 will be offered with adaptive LED headlights, lane-keeping assist and an updated infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new radar-guided cruise control system will also feature, including a stop and go function for automatic models.
