Businesses looking for a commercial vehicle with serious off-road capability and on-road presence have had their prayers answered by Land Rover. The marque has returned to the van market with the Land Rover Discovery Commercial, a Discovery 5 with the second and third rows of seating replaced by a load area offering 1,856 litres of space. Prices start from £40,333 (+VAT).
The Discovery Commercial retains the look of the passenger car versions on the outside with ‘rear window concealment panels’ sitting behind privacy glass so that the Disco van is virtually indistinguishable from the SUV - unless owners choose to give the game away with some elaborate bodywork signwriting. Raise the powered tailgate, and the Discovery Commercial reveals its full load carrying potential. The space in the back is 1,635mm long, 939mm high and 1,411mm wide.

Land Rover’s 2.0D SD4 diesel opens the engine range with 237bhp but you can upgrade to the 258bhp output of the 6-cylinder 3.0-litre TD6 if you so desire. All models feature the Discovery’s standard automatic gearbox with a twin-speed transfer box and all-wheel drive, while advanced air-suspension and the Terrain Response off-road driving modes also feature.
The Discovery Commercial opens at £40,333 (+VAT) and that gets you an S model with 19” alloy wheels, leather seats, air-conditioning and the InControl Touch Pro package. Cruise control, a speed limiter, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning are also standard.
Step up the SE for a £4,600 premium and there’s an upgraded stereo, Navigation Pro sat-nav, automatic High Beam Assist headlights and two-zone climate control. At this level, Land Rover also throws in its Pro-Services and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Finally, HSE (a £5,200 upgrade over the SE) adds 20” wheels, keyless entry, a rear-view camera and various other tech features.
The Land Rover Discovery Commercial is available to order now wit the first deliveries expected in Q2 or 2018.
