A London-based Dutch car designer has led a team to create a shooting brake variant of the Tesla Model S all-electric saloon. The unofficial Tesla estate will be built by Dutch coachbuilder RemetzCar.
No photos of the ultra-exclusive shooting brake have been seen yet but the firm has released sketches of the electric estate that show where standard Model S design features are carried over. The front and rear lights, wheels and some of the bodywork from the Model S would appear to be retained but the car gets a longer roofline giving rise to a more practical rear end.

Only 20 examples of the electric shooting brake will be built by RemetzCar, a coachbuilder based just outside Amsterdam that specialises in converting ordinary cars into stretch limousines. RemetzCar, which recently created a ‘Tesla Model S E-Hearse’, plans to deliver the 20 Tesla Model S shooting brakes to customers from March 2018.
Niels van Roij is the Dutch designer that led the team responsible for creating the shooting brake Model S. His eponymous design studio, Niels van Roij Design, has been responsible for shooting brake designs in the past, such as a shooting brake Rolls Royce, as well as van Roij’s own interpretation of what a ‘Future London Taxi’ might look like.
Talking about the Shooting Brake Tesla design, van Roij said: “Based on extensive design research, we developed the brand DNA for the Shooting Brake. The conversion merges seamlessly with the Tesla base vehicle, whilst clearly communicating though form, design language and materials that this is a tailor-made Shooting Brake.
Regarding the process of designing the Tesla shooting brake, he added: “The aesthetics of this conversion have been developed thoroughly by producing 3 design propositions, within which 16 different design themes were generated. Our research focused on benchmarking high end performance station cars, one-off vehicles and market trends.”
