An updated Kia Sportage is in the pipeline and our spy photographers have spotted the refreshed SUV in Germany, ahead of it arriving on sale this autumn.
On sale since 2015, the Sportage is due a facelift to keep it fresh alongside sharp new rivals such as the SEAT Ateca and the Skoda Karoq. These spy shots reveal that a series of exterior design revisions are on the way and will be top of the updated car’s bill.

The redesign is still hidden under plenty of masking, but it’s possible to spot a new set of headlights at the front. The new units boast the firm’s now trademark “ice cube” lighting signature, with four small LED projectors. A slightly redesigned front apron will likely join the new headlights.
The car spied here is most likely a range topping GT-Line model, as evidenced by the twin exhaust exits at the rear. It appears that the sportiest Sportage will get a new set of alloy wheels too, while the taillights receive a fresh lighting signature.
These spy shots don’t serve up a look in the cabin, but we don’t expect major changes inside. Under the skin, the updated Sportage should arrive with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. Speaking to Auto Express earlier this year, Woong Chul Yang, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D division said: “For Europe there is demand for mild-hybrid 48-volt technology, so we are working on that for the Sportage and for medium sized SUVs, and we are working on that for the new Cee’d. This is to meet all those tough CO2 requirements.”
Now find out how Kia hopes to take on the Volkswagen Golf here.
