Pictures of the new BMW M2 Competition Pack have surfaced online, hinting at faster, sportier coupe

The hotly anticipated BMW M2 Competition Pack has leaked online, ahead of its rumoured unveil at the Beijing Motor Show later this month. Official specs are thin on the ground, but reports suggest it’ll inherit the M3 and M4’s pokier 3.0-litre straight six.

But despite switching engines, it’s thought the M2 Competition Pack’s unit will be de-tuned to offer 404bhp – rather than the M3’s 425bhp. It’ll get the same 550Nm of torque, however, helping it sprint from 0-62mph in an M3-beating 4.2 seconds. That figure is for the DCT automatic car; there’s no mention of the manual just yet.

Design-wise, the Competition Pack car offers buyers a selection of subtle upgrades – including new 19-inch wheels, black badges, a black kidney grille and a new front bumper. The rest of the recently-facelifted M2’s changes are carried over, comprising revised rear light clusters and adaptive LED headlamps.

The leaked interior picture shows a new red starter button, as well as ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ configurable drive mode buttons on the steering wheel. There are new M4-sourced seats with illuminated badging, too.

Whether the M2 Competition Pack will replace the standard M2 or sit above it in the range is unclear, but the upgrades will no doubt command a healthy premium for prospective buyers. Given the current car costs from £46,700, it’s likely the new model will be priced nearer to £50,000.

More information will surface in the coming weeks, ahead of the car’s assumed unveil at the Beijing show on 25 April. Check back soon for further pictures and official details.
