This is our first look at the forthcoming Audi A6 Allroad, which is set to join the saloon and Avant in the firm’s large executive car line-up next year. It’ll rival the Volvo V90 Cross Country and replace the current A6 Allroad when it launches early in 2019.
While the pictures appear to show little more than a camouflaged A6 Avant, look closely and there are a few tell-tale signs that we’re looking at something a bit different. The first clue is the ride height, which is visibly higher than the standard A6. The bumpers are wider, too, and the sills and wheelarches have been injected with a bit more off-road attitude as well.

Little else appears to have changed, so the familiar Audi grille, sharp LED lights and raised roofline are all carried over from the standard A6 Avant. The steeply raked screen and practical estate body are almost identical, while at the rear it looks to carry over the Avant’s tail-lights and bootlid without alteration.
Audi has revealed very little about the A6 Allroad so far, but we expect it to follow in the footsteps of the outgoing car by ditching the entry-level four-cylinder engines. That means it’s likely to use only the more powerful six-cylinder petrol and diesel units - all mated to the firm’s venerable quattro all-wheel drive system. Like the normal A6, every Allroad will get 48-volt mild hybrid tech.
Its interior will be carried over from the saloon and estate models, with the company’s Virtual Cockpit dials and dual-screen infotainment system fitted as standard. Expect best-in-class build quality and all the latest comfort, convenience and technology features.
