Skoda has revealed the latest creation to be borne from its annual Azubi Car project, unveiling a roofless Karoq SUV called the Skoda Sunroq.
23 students from seven different professions teamed up over a period of eight months to develop and construct the car at Skoda’s trade school in the Czech city of Mlada Boleslav.

The Sunroq is designed to be “the perfect companion on summer holidays”, whilst also being capable of handling rougher terrain. Its creators decided to target young adults, “who might need enough room to load their surfboards, but also want to feel the wind in their hair and sun on their faces in their pursuit of adventure.”
Retaining the same length, width and wheelbase as the standard Karoq, the Sunroq also uses the 1.5-litre petrol engine provided by the donor car. As such the Sunroq will do 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds, with a top speed of 121mph.
After designing the car, the students were tasked with defending their proposals before carrying out construction of the vehicle. The Karoq’s roof was removed, and significant work was done to the doors, pillars and tailgate.
The Sunroq is finished in Velvet Red paint, and features details such as backlit handles, and Skoda logo projections at the front and rear.
The name, meanwhile, was chosen by the students after customers and fans submitted suggestions in a social media campaign.
This is the fifth year of the Skoda Azubi Car project, with previous concepts including the convertible Citijet, Funstar pick-up, Atero coupe and Element electric car.
