Though the 2018 edition of the Paris Motor Show doesn’t begin until early October, we already have a good idea as to what some of the show’s biggest stars are likely to be.
Following on from March’s Geneva Motor Show as the second major European automotive exhibition of the calendar year, the Paris Motor Show alternates with the International Motor Show Germany in Frankfurt every year.

While Geneva is regarded as more significant for European new car launches, and the sheer scale of Frankfurt makes it unmatched for the variety of cars on display, Paris lays claim to being the world’s oldest motor show with the first edition held back in 1898.
Paris 2016 certainly didn’t disappoint on the new car front, either. With hugely important electric concept cars from Volkswagen and Mercedes in the form of the I.D. and Generation EQ hitting the stands. Indeed, electrification was a major theme at the last show – something we anticipate will be repeated in 2018. We also saw the new BMW X2 in concept form in 2016, while big production debuts included the Audi Q5, Skoda Kodiaq, Peugeot 3008, Land Rover Discovery and Honda Civic - cars that are all now in showrooms and on the streets
The 2018 Paris Motor Show begins on 2 October with the first press day, and opens to the public on the 4th. Here’s an early list of what we’re expecting, and we’ll be updating this page with fresh news as the show approaches.

Audi

Audi looks set for a big Paris show, with the firm's new A1 supermini all set to make its public debut. We've had our first look at the second-generation Volkswagen Polo rival and the show will be our first proper oppurtunity to get up close and personal with the new A1. Elsewhere, the venerable A4 has been spied testing ahead of a facelift, while the A6 Avant range will expand with a tough Allroad version in Paris too.
BMW
• BMW 3 Series

An all-new BMW 3 Series looks likely to be the biggest story of the Paris Motor Show. Under the bodywork it'll switch to BMW's lightweight CLAR platform, enabling new-generation and alternative powertrains to be fitted. As such, a fully electric variant of the next 3 Series is in the pipeline, though it probably won't be at Paris. Alongside it, we'll get to see the new X5 SUV and Z4 roadster for the first time in public as well.
DS
DS will add a second SUV to its line-up at its home show in Paris, sitting beneath the flagship DS 7 Crossback. It'll be called the DS 3 Crossback, and will rival the likes of the MINI Countryman and Audi Q2. Making use of the PSA group's new CMP platform, it'll also be ready for electrification. To showcase this and to really make a statement, DS looks set to take the wraps off a purely electric DS 3 Crossback at Paris, using a modified version of the platform called e-CMP.
Peugeot
Peugeot's stylish new 508 will be bolstered on two fronts with the full public debut of the 508 SW, plus the arrival of plug-in hybrid versions of the firm's flagship D-segment offering. The 508 SW rivals the Skoda Superb Estate and the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer and Prices and specs will be revealed at Paris along with full details of the PHEV model's range and performance.
Skoda
Skoda's vRS performance brand will release its take on the Kodiaq SUV. Skoda has been testing the Kodiaq vRS at the Nurburgring, setting the lap record for a seven-seat SUV in the process. Power will come from a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel offering 237bhp, while prices in the UK will likely just eclipse £40,000.
