A new McLaren is on the way, and it looks set to be a track-biased Sports Series addition

McLaren 570LT teaser

McLaren has confirmed that it has an all-new production model up its sleeve, teasing its next creation with a preview image and video clip released across the firm’s social media platforms.

The single teaser image is a glimpse of the new car’s rear end, with the taillight strongly indicating that this is a new member of the 570 line-up to slot in alongside coupe, convertible and the slightly more practical GT variants of the car.

Ominously missing from the teaser image is an exhaust exit. It’s doesn’t mean that the new Sports Series member will be fully electric, however – the teaser video confirms petrol power and the firm’s trademark 3.8-litre V8 turbo unit. Instead, the exhaust has been moved into the middle of the car. Exiting directly out of the rear fascia and straight from the engine, it’ll be a similar setup to the one seen on the 720S.

The racing car inspired exhaust location strongly suggests that this will be a flagship addition to the Sports Series line-up. As such, we could be looking at a potential 570LT.

While the 675LT boasted serious design and performance revisions compared to the 650S, the changes the 570LT will receive compared to the 570S will be a bit milder, considering the car’s Sports Series status. However, it will be lighter than the standard 570S model, while power should climb too, to around 600bhp. The new exhaust system will turn the volume up even more.

Finally, minor aerodynamic revisions intended to increase downforce will cement the 570LT’s position as a track biased Sports Series entry, already evident in the teaser image – we can see that the rear diffuser on this new model is larger than the one fitted to 570S.

With the car teased and clearly finished, a reveal could take place very soon. If it is a hardcore addition to the 570 line-up, a price approaching £200,000 would seem likely.
