The Mercedes SLC range has been updated for 2018, with extra kit and new options. In addition, the flagship Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 gets a sizeable power boost – inheriting its engine from the revised C 43 saloon.
Boasting an extra 23bhp, the new AMG SLC 43 lifts its 385bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine from the recently updated C 43 range. The 520Nm torque figure is unchanged, although it now peaks at 2,500rpm rather than 2,000rpm. It’ll still sprint from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds, and hit the same electronically limited 155mph top speed.
In addition, the AMG version now gets dual-zone climate control as standard, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beam, and a new Graphite Grey exterior paint option. The £46,530 list price is unaffected. Like before, the every SLC’s Vario roof can be opened in 20 seconds and at speeds of up to 25mph.
Elsewhere in the SLC range, Mercedes has added a range of standalone options. Customers can now add a Harman Kardon stereo, ambient lighting and Parktronic, as well as a dash-mounted analogue clock. The final option is Blind Spot Assist, which joins the baby Merc roadster’s list of safety kit. The range changes should help the SLC keep pace with newer rivals like the tech-laden Audi TT and forthcoming BMW Z4.
The rest of the SLC line-up is unaffected, meaning buyers are given a choice of SLC 180, SLC 200 and SLC 300 petrols, as well as an SLC 250 d diesel. Entry-level cars SLC 180 and 200 get a manual gearbox as standard, while a nine-speed automatic is also available. The SLC 300 and 250 d come exclusively with the auto box. Mercedes has dropped the Sport spec for 2018, offering a sole AMG Line trim on standard petrol and diesel cars.
The revised SLC range is available to order now, priced from £33,129.
