A teaser image for the new sixth generation Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck has been released. Despite being 40 years old, the L200 is still going strong so the next generation will hope to continue with that. Although this is only a teaser image, we can see the type of design that Mitsubishi will be going for with an aggressive front-end treatment in evidence. There's a huge gap between the wheelarch lip and the tyre's edge suggesting that long-travel suspension will be used to maintain the L200's off-road pedigree.
The headlights are narrow and sleek, showing a progression away from the function over form rule of previous generation L200s. New larger fog lights can also be seen in the teaser, which help give the front end a more bulky and aggressive look.
Not only has the new L200 got to face off against current rivals such as Isuzu D-MAX, Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux but also against a crop of new pick-ups.
Since the current generation Mitsubishi L200 went on sale in 2014, the pick-up game has changed with the introduction of the new class leaders. There is demand for more premium models such as the Mercedes X-Class and Renault Alaskan, and also, potentially, for fast off-road pickups as seen in the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor.
There's no date yet as to when the new L200 will be revealed but there’s strong evidence that it will be before 2020.
