Bentley Continental GTC spies front side

It's not long since the latest Bentley Continental GT landed on the scene at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but now our eagle-eyed spy photographers have caught the GTC convertible going topless for some winter testing.

As expected, the GTC's body shape sticks closely to the GT coupe, with the only evident changes to be found above the windowline. This prototype is the first we've seen with the roof folded down - despite the sub-zero temperatures - revealing a chrome-lined rear deck and a removable wind deflector sitting above the rear seats.

Like the outgoing Continental GTC, an electric folding fabric roof will remain, although expect improvements to the material or insulation to boost refinement further. The UK registration plate reveals this car is powered by the 626bhp W12 engine, while a V8 powered variant and a plug-in hybrid powertrain will also be offered at a later date.

Like the new GT, the GTC will be a slightly lighter car than the model it replaces, although at around 2.3 tonnes it's still one of the heavier convertibles on the market. The cabin will transfer over unchanged, but expect reduced rear seat space over the coupe.

Don't be surprised to see a slight price increase over the old GTC's £165,000 figure when it launches, which will likely be in the summer of 2018 after an international reveal early next year.
