Volvo has introduced a new entry-level T4 petrol engine to the line-up of its S90 saloon and V90 estate, with prices starting from £35,055 and £37,055 respectively.

Available to order now, the new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine produces 187bhp and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Volvo says the engine should return fuel economy of 42.2mpg in the S90 and 40.9mpg in the larger V90.

The new engine is the only pure petrol engine offered across the standard S90 and V90 ranges, making it an alternative to the existing D4 and D5 2.0-litre diesels and petrol-electric hybrid T8. Previously the only pure petrol engine available in the range was the 316bhp 2.0-lite T6 in rugged V90 Cross Country

Standard equipment on the saloon and estate models includes a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in satellite navigation, automatic emergency braking and semi-autonomous driving technology. Leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control and alloy wheels are also included.

Options for the S90 and V90 T4 include even larger 21-inch wheels, front and rear parking assist with 360-degree surround view and a head-up display. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a £400 extra, while the premium Bowers and Wilkins sound system is a £3,000 option.
