News that the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will make its debut on 12 November was revealed in a short video released on Chevrolet’s Instagram account.

The brief video shows various carbon fibre trinkets on the car and a quick glimpse of the front grille, before the video focuses in on the exhaust system as the V8 engine roars into life. The video wraps up with the new Corvette’s launch date this Sunday 12 November.

Prior to the launch teasers, there have been a number of spy shots of the Corvette ZR1 in convertible form being test driven in the United States. The most notable feature on the test mule photographed is the giant rear wing and the boisterous bonnet scoop that houses a big V8 engine underneath.

The spy shots potentially reveal a soft-top ZR1 in the works by the Detroit manufacturer, with 750bhp the rumoured power figure for the new range topping ‘Vette. At the rear, complimenting the big wing are the traditional four exhaust pipes that have featured on fast Vettes in recent years.

The ZR1 brand will make its return after a four-year absence after the C7 Corvette arrived to take over the reins as the latest generation Corvette from the C6. The C6 ZR1 features a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 with 650bhp and a similarly big bonnet scoop to the one latest spy images.

Interior shots of the new Corvette test mule show a carbon-fibre-clad dashboard and steering wheel but with little in the way of eye-catching gadgets. A paddle shifter can be seen on the left side of the steering wheel, suggesting the ZR1 should come with an eight-speed semi-automatic transmission used on the Z06 and Stingray models.

In two days time, all the speculation will end and the C7 Corvette ZR1 will be formally released to the public.
