This is the new Ford Bullitt Mustang GT. Revealed on the eve of the Detroit Motor Show the new model has been launched on the 50th anniversary of the Steve McQueen blockbuster and goes on sale in the summer. It’s not yet known if it will be made available in the UK.
It’s powered by a tuned version of the Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre V8 engine, which develops ‘at least’ 475bhp and 569Nm of torque. It comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, like the original, while Ford claims the Bullitt can hit 163mph flat out – an 8mph increase over the Mustang GT.
The Bullitt features a performance exhaust system as standard as well as the open air induction system and intake manifold from the Shelby GT350. Ford says this has been designed to give it a unique exhaust note.

Visually, it rides on unique 19-inch black alloy wheels, while colour choices are limited to Dark Highland Green or Shadow black. Subtle chrome details around the grille and front windows and green decorative stitching in the cabin are a nod to the 1968 original.
Inside, Recaro racing seats are available as an optional extra along with adaptive dampers and an electronics package that adds sat-nav, driver memory seats and mirrors, blind spot monitoring and an uprated sound system.
It’s not the first time Ford has created a new interpretation of the Bullitt; back in 2001 the company rolled out a limited run model which packed more performance than the Mustang it was based on at the time. It was powered by a 265bhp 4.6-litre V8 and capable of 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds.
The Bullitt GT joins the new Edge ST and Ranger pick-up on Ford’s stand at the Detroit Motor Show. It will be built in limited numbers but Ford has not yet decided how many it will produce.
