Renault has released a limited edition Formula One-inspired Clio R.S.18 for the European market. There are no plans to sell it in the UK at this stage, however.
The R.S.18 is based on the current Clio R.S. 220 EDC Trophy, which is available in the UK for £22,995. It features the same 217bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that takes the Clio hot hatch from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 146mph.
On this Clio R.S.18 model a torque boost has also been added to the engine, helping the car reach a peak torque figure of 280Nm. The exhaust note has also been enhanced thanks to an exhaust system from specialists Akrapovic. The chassis has been lowered and stiffened further in R.S.18 guise, while the steering has been sharpened and front dampers now include hydraulic compression stops.
R.S.18 was created by Renault to celebrate the French manufacturer’s 40-year involvement in Formula One last year. The body is painted in black with yellow outlines around the front grille and sideskirts, along with another dollop of yellow on the wheels.
On the roof, you find a silver double-diamond decal next to a big R.S. badge. The colour scheme is an inverted take on Renault’s current Formula One livery, which is painted in a yellow base with black outlines.
A combination of Alcantara and leather has been upholstered inside amid carbon fibre air vents and R.S. branding on the doorsills and steering wheel. Renault hasn’t stated exactly how many will be built, only saying that the Clio R.S.18 will be built in limited numbers for the European market and go on sale in the first half of 2018.
